What’s the cost of doing construction
One of the most-asked questions we get is, “How much does it cost to build or renovate a house?”
Setting a budget is one of the most important considerations when starting a renovation or construction project in Toronto or the GTA. The cost of construction varies based on a number of factors. We’ll work with you to understand your needs, budget, and desired results. Here are some things we consider when quoting a project:
The more complicated or intricate a Toronto construction or renovation project is, the more labour-intensive and material-heavy it will be. For example, adding fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, skylights and other features will increase costs. You also need to consider whether your project will require updating plumbing, electrical, or HVAC. Also consider square footage of your project, permits, site preparation and any site clean-up that may be required.
Are you renovating your home, or looking to start a new build from the ground up? The size of your project will influence the amount of your own time you will need to put into your project, be displaced from your home, or live through a renovation.
The least expensive materials aren’t always the best. While we only work with high-quality materials, some simply cost more than others. We know how to find the right materials for your budget, without compromising quality or longevity. At the beginning of our design process, we will work with you to understand your vision and your goals, and we’ll also ensure you approve all materials and finishings along the way so there are no surprises.

Book a consultation
Want to get your next construction project started? Whether you’re looking to renovate, build an addition, create an outdoor oasis, or build a brand new custom home, we’d love to help. Book a consultation with us and tell us your vision, and we’ll help turn it into a reality.
Our Process
Step 1: Consultation
We start every project with an in-depth project review so that we can put together a comprehensive, individualized plan. In this meeting, we discuss your vision, goals, expectations, project timeline and budget. Here, you can provide us with your overall wishlist and prioritize the items as “must-haves” or “nice-to-haves”. From here, we activate the project development agreement and begin the design drawings.
Step 2: Assign a Design Team
In this phase, we create and confirm your vision. Based on your project scope and requirements, we will assign you a dedicated design team to your project. You’ll get a link to their profile and see examples of their design work. You will also be assigned a project coordinator who will guide you through the project. At this stage, we determine appropriate zoning requirements and restrictions as well.
Step 3: Drawing Review
Here, we share design ideas and review your project’s preliminary drawings. We receive feedback and approval from the client, and work with you on desired changes to the overall design. 3D drawing can be provided if desired. We also take this time to discuss the budget and provide a rough project quote.
Step 4: Establish Project Details
Next, we start costing with key trade partners, finalize drawings, material selection, and the general budget. You can choose to join us for material selection or have us bring samples to you. We then conduct a home walkthrough and plan review. We also discuss areas for potential unforeseen problems and develop contingency plans as-needed.
Step 5: Building Phase and Milestones
During the course of the building and construction phase, we set up regular contact and weekly communication meetings, and set up a dedicated chat for progress updates, client questions and decision resolution. We also discuss the steps we’re taking to meet your budget, work quality and schedule.
Step 6: Home Sweet Home!
The moment you’ve been waiting for! In this final phase of the project, we do our final walkthrough and reveal, and explain how everything works, as needed. We follow this with a 30 day check in and one year check in, but in between those times, we’re always just a phone call away.
Trust, transparency, quality
At Sandstorm Construction, it’s our goal to provide our customers with the highest quality service, not only in the work we produce, but in all areas of our business. We’re here to guide you through each phase of your project – even before you’ve spent a dime. From planning and design, to communication and transparency throughout your project, to responding to issues, questions and concerns in a timely fashion, you’ll never feel like you’re in the dark. And in the end, you’ll be left with high-quality results that we know you’ll love.

Finding a contractor can be overwhelming! To find the best home renovation contractor near you, start by asking for recommendations from friends and family.
